Look What We Got To Do!

On a recent Saturday, approximately 75 science students representing all three OC Stellar Technology High Schools were bused to the Ocean Institute in Dana Point for an exciting day that included tide pool exploration, urchin dissection, and ecosystem identification. During this hands-on field trip, students collected data and digital images to be used to produce educational podcasts designed to enhance the experience of future visitors to the Ocean Institute. Students also learned about Marine Protected Areas, a current topic of interest in the Orange County community, and participated in a mock stakeholder meeting. This innovative collaborative project motivates students through relevant learning experiences, integration of technology, production for a real audience, and the reward of community service.
